Short Curriculum

Eduarda Neves is a professor of contemporary art theory and criticism, an area in which she has published various articles and books. She is also an independent curator. Her research and curatorial activity interweaves the fields of art, philosophy and politics. Since February 2019 she has collaborated on the journal “CONTEMPORÂNEA”. Her most recent books are: O AUTO-RETRATO. FOTOGRAFIA E SUBJECTIVAÇÃO. Lisboa: Ed. Palimpsesto | CEAA, 2016 [shortlisted for the PEN CLUB award in the category of Essay, 2017] and in 2020, NEM-ISTO-NEM-AQUILO, from the same publisher. She is preparing publication of her next book BESTIÁRIOS. ENSAIOS SOBRE ARTE CONTEMPORÂNEA. She holds a degree in Philosophy and a PhD in Aesthetics and is an Assistant Professor at ESAP. She has been researcher in charge of the research group ARTE E ESTUDOS CRÍTICOS at CEAA since 2013. She designed the projects ALGUMAS RAZÕES PARA UMA ARTE NÃO DEMISSIONÁRIA [2014-15], CORRESPONDÊNCIAS [2016-17] and HORS-SÉRIE [2018], presented in Portugal, Germany, Austria, Spain, France, Malta and Ukraine. She was a member of the exhibition project QUATRO ELEMENTOS (curator of the element EARTH), Porto Municipal Gallery [2017]. Other recent curatorial projects are: FAULT LINE (Casa dos Crivos + Convento de São Francisco) and A ALGUNS PASSOS COMO SE ESTIVESSE MUITO LONGE, ENCONTROS DA IMAGEM, Braga and Porto [2017]; A.A.R., Espaço Mira (Porto) and SEM IMAGO MUNDI, ANTES UM DESVIO ALEATÓRIO, Planetário (Porto) [2018]. In 2019 she created the  EUROPA project that links an international conference (I) Notas sobre a Europa. O sono dogmático, (II) and a curatorial project - Andando em torno do Sol: Máquinas, Aranhas e Corsários, presented in Portugal, Greece, Germany and Austria. For the two year period 2019-2020, she has been a member of the Commission for the Acquisition of Contemporary Art for the Portuguese State’s collection. She is currently director of the Escola Superior Artística do Porto - ESAP.
